This is a "MAX" load in my Ruger 77. Reduce and work up for your gun.
Rem. brass, Fed 215 primer, Nosler 165 Ballistic Tip, and 73.0 grains IMR 4350.
This load chronos at 3200 from my Ruger 77. Have taken mule deer and elk
with it out to 500 yards.

A 165gr Ballistic Tip is a little light for elk. Even the Nosler people don't recommend it.

You better hope you don't have to shoot one at 50 yards in the shoulder with that load, you may experience the meaning of the phrase "bullet failure" first hand.

But it is a good deer load.

2. Same as above but 180g Barnes TSX, 3038fps. 4 shots, 0.85".

If I see an elk at 50 yards I'll pull out my 14" T/C 444 Marlin.

:D  For different game I use different bullets and loads...for years the favorite powder for this caliber with my friends and I was IMR 4350.  My old .300 is on its 3rd barrel...and 4350 was used most of the time....
1.For very light game deer/antelope/sheep in open country I liked a near max. load of 4350 and a 150 grain Nosler BTBT or Serria Flat base...With this load I have taken mulies, antelope, sheep, elk and black bear...it is a bit light a destroys meat if not well placed but it shoots FLAT....
2.Another excellent load for light game was the Serria 165 HPBT...I used it with a top load of IMR4350, but in the newest barrel switched to Re 22 and a near max. load...Re22 has become our new favorite for 165's,180's, and 200's..
3.My favorite heavy game load is Re 22 and a 200 grain Nosler Part...with all loads I used CCI250's...Over the years I tended to shoot either 165's or 200's..I really haven't used the 180's that much...but it would be a good middle of the road weight...I would try either IMR 4350 or Re22 and a Nosler 180 Part.that load would do most things very, very well.....

Good loads!!

One of those loads that just works in about every good 300WM is Win Brass, 75gr. RL22, Fed 215pr, & 180gr.BT or Accubond.

My most accurate load is the above components except for a stiff load of RL25 instead.

I loaded up some 168 Bergers for little bro's 300 Rem PSS last fall, 78 gr. of RL22 at about 3300 out of the Rem26" & the holes on Mule Deer & Whitetail looked scary.

My BIL and myself used Hornady 180s and near max loads of H4831 when we had ours. His Vanguard preferred Remington brass while my Interarms liked Federal. Both were powered by Fed MagRifle primers.

I pretty much settled on IMR 4831 near max load and nearly any 180 gr bullet, CCI mag rifle, or Win Mag rifle or F 215 in Rem brass. Mostly use 180 Speer hot core flat base or 180 Nosler Partition and get 1 to 1.5 in at 100 yds. and about 1.5 to 2 in at 170 yds - max at my range. Second choice is near max H4831.

And I stumbled on a very accurate load with 180 Balistic tips, H450, Rem brass and CCI primers  - can't recall the powder weight - and that powder is rare these days I think. I was getting right at .5 in at 100. Not a max load - was middle of the road and I made them for practice shooting.

I intentionally keep the loads a little lower than max to spare the barrel and reduce meat damage - while still getting a lot more speed than my 06.

I'm currently trying out Rx22 with 180 and 200 gr bullets so appreicate the info.

My hunting load is a hot load and don't recommend trying it without using extreme caution. My gun shoots it without any issues, hot or cold. I use 79g of RL22 with a 168g Barnes TSX, F210 match primer. It gives me 1 1/2" groups at 200yds, and complete penetration on a 5x5 bull elk at over 500yds.

Friday I tried out some random starter / mid-level loads with Rx 22, CCI Mag Rifle, Rem or Fed brass and 180 and 200 gr bullets. All shot under 1.5 in at 100 with Hornady 180 interlock BT the biggest (5 shots), 180 Win RN at about 1.1 (3), 180 Win Power Pt at 1 inch (3) , and 200 gr Speer Hot Core at about .37 inch ctc (3)!!. That is the very smallest group I have ever shot with this gun - brass was Fed in this case. I wish I'd shot a full 5 rounds. I'm not sure I can do that again. And I think I may want more velocity - but it was about half way between starter and book max.  My rifle likes Speer Hot Cores and just does not seem to like any Hornady bullet I've tried. I'm very encouraged by Rx22. I'm eager to chrono it now too.
