Ruger number question
« on: July 06, 2010, 05:25:22 AM »
Does the number 1 International have the same type of grouping problem as the 1B.
I am looking at a new international in 7x57 Bud's has a good price on them right now.

Deacon...

I made a fairly detailed post concerning the #1 International at the site offered earlier in this thread by PowPow.

I have a RSI (aka "Ruger #1 International) in 7x57 which has fired 3 shot groups measuring .176 and .179 inches using H4350 (read my previous post).

In order to do it, I have to let my rifle's short barrel cool off to "just barely warm" before firing another shot.

In my humble opinion, there's not a more beautiful rifle than the Ruger #1 International with a Kepplinger single-set trigger.   :)

I understand the barrel cooling, dont know why the barrels get so hot on them as other guns I have almost same specs. shooting wise and they do not get as hot as the Ruger. I had a number one in 22-250 and after 3 shot the barrel was very hot the 06 gets hot but my 243 does not get too hot but I do know in all my research on the number one that is the main problem but then again in hunting you most likely will get only one shot.

The amount of heat generated is the same as other guns. The temperature rise is a result of poor cooling.
The RSI barrel does not cool as fast as other barrels because the whole barrel is insulated halfway around with wood.
I think it should be something that happens with all Mannlicher stocked guns.
