WE GOT DEER!!!
« on: October 14, 2010, 09:04:13 AM »
My huntin buddy just called; he finally got out and pulled my camara.  600 and some odd pictures   :o  A lot of movement around my primary stand but most of the pics were dark; aparently no flash.   ::)

But the ones that did come out show a lot of does and fawns and 4 different bucks: a spike, a four, a six and a big eight - with broken brow tines.   :(

He'll email me the pics soon.  I can't wait!   :D

It sounds like the big 8 pointer has some competition. Be interesting to see who and what broke them horns.

Im afraid most of the deer moving around my stands are traveling at night. I haven't put any cameras at my main stands to see whats moving.

That's exactly what I was thinking!   ;D

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the pictures.   :(  My huntin buddy can't seem to figure out how to send 'em....  ::)  Them So. Jawja country boys ain't real technical inclined...  :-\

Thing is I like to put a couple a does and a fawn in the freezer then hunt horns...  But the same thing happened last year when we first got these trail cams.  Ya see whats out there and you hold off shootin waitin for one a them bucks you seen and it screws up u meat huntin!

We got pictues of big deer last year that nobody saw after the season started!  :(

Got my meat Sunday evening Mr. Atlaw.  Two good size does committed suicide by walking into the path of a 7mm bullet from my 280.  I gave them the last rites and took them to the processor.  Grand daughter helped with the field dressing, and wants to shoot next time! ;D

Now I've got to kill two more for meat for daughter's freezer, then we'll work on that 11 point I missed Sat. morning.  I've got to hurry up and kill him, or he will have 30 points and weigh 300 pounds in my dreams....... ???

Glad to hear somebody got one. Everything that could have happened or could get in the way of hunting Saturday and Sunday did.

I heard alot of people say they seen plenty but nobody got a shot. Maybe this weekend will be better.

hey Richard,
good luck chasin after them antlers.    I had the same experience this past weekend when I checked my trail cams set two weeks ago.   Lots of does, yearlings, but several curious bucks.   One 8, a 6,5, a pair of fork horns and the strangest looking Cow horn buck I have ever seen.   Litterally a single long curved tine on each side.

We got 5 does, 2 hogs, and a bobcat this past weekend at our So.Jawja camp.  Two of the does were taken with a single shot from my Handi 3030.  They just lined up right.

Let us know how the season goes!

Got 2 in the freezer now!
big doe and a small buck.
We had a difficult tracking job on the doe.
Almost Perfect shot, right behind the shoulder too.
She still traveled almost 250 yards.
Upon field dressing, no lungs left, just Goo.
Amazing creatures these Whitetail.

I'm back.  Most disappointing opening week I've seen in years!   :(  I saw one deer and one coyote in 8 days!  Killed the deer and missed the coyote.  But at least I have my leg of fawn for T'giving and Christmas.

The big buck was on my camera once; in the middle of the night.  It looks like he left my area of the farm since he left a line of scrapes on one of our access roads then walked past my hunting buddy's (Tom's) camara...  At 08:45 in the morning!  ... while Tom was sitting in a stand 100 yards away.   ::)

They all seem to be nocternal and it doesn't look like the rut has kicked in.  Not even the pre-rut actually.  No sign except for that one buck's scrapes.  That's strange because by opening day the pre-rut is usually well under way.

Tom called me this morning and he shot a doe at 07:35.  It made him feel somewhat better since last week he missed what he says is the biggest buck he's ever seen on the farm... but you know how that is!   ;)  Anyway, he missed a fifty yard standing broadside shot!  :o  TWICE!!!!   :o :o ::)  He said he was shaking so bad the scope was just a blur!   :P :D

hey Richard,
the strangest looking Cow horn buck I have ever seen.   Litterally a single long curved tine on each side.

Hey Gregg!  One of the bucks on my cam was a cow horn spike like that also!  That's the one I had my sights set for rather then the 4's or 6's that were running around!   ;D  But now I'd like to see anything!   ::)

I'm going again this weekend of course... and every weekend between now and Thanksgiving... Kathie doesn't know yet...  :-\

I had a buddy shoot one of those cow horn spikes once....weighed in at over 800#, and the fella' who owned the land was a might upset at him for shooting it.....he was a little peeved too.  It seems you can't make a 400 yd. shot with a 30-30 if a cow horn spike is standing at the 250 yd. line in front of you....go figure.... :D
