Shootall;  I don't know that I would agree with that.  The Desert Eagle is a strong 44mag, they also have an excellent 357mag. 8)

And they are almost as big as a M1. That's the point they are bigger and less useful if carry is involved.

I don't think the size of the S&W 460 and 500 are any better, but are successfuly used for hunting as have been the Desrt Eagles.  The size of the 357 Desert Eagle is almost small in comparison to these S&Ws. 8)

Look at the round and gun it shoots to compare a 357 mag to a gun that shoots 500 S&W is apples to oranges . How big would a simi auto be if it shot a round like the 500 S&W

Not sure, but they all seem like Roger Rabit guns to a 5'9" guy like me. 8)  The Desert Eagle 50AE was the big kid on the block until S&W came out with the 500S&W.

Power vs size I can't think of any main stream auto that ounce for ounce and size for size that is more powerful than what can be found in a revolver of equal size or weight.

When I think of a revolver, I think of hunts, hikes and rivers to be ridden. When I look at an auto, I think of situations that I pray I will never have to be in! Both are tools, differant ajendas for me.

When I think revolver I think reliablity , second chance with new round , any ammo will work - for those situations I have been in . Over the years I have found small autos leave alot to be desired if used much and find most small revolvers almost bank vault reliable wet dirty or what ever. Big auto of good quality on the other hand run like a sewing machine . Like they say size matters . Here were have alot of road rage and car jacking . Alot of folks have a 44 mag. on board for such . What do you want in your vehicle when someone is pointing a gun at you and forcing you off the road ?

I have had two occations when people have tried to force me off the road.  Both times, just showing I was armed stopped the problem.  Once was a Ruger six inch Single Six, the other a 1911.  I think it was simply the fact I was armed that saved the day. 8)  Both occations there was six in their car, thinking I guess to overwhelm with numbers. >:(

Yep I did it with a 3 inch j frame 30 years ago . But if I need one today I would want big . Hey the bad guys like AK 47's here.

Here we go with the reliability thing again.
If you feel more comfortable with a revolver then that is what you should carry.
If you like the reliability and firepower of a semi then that is what you should carry.
I like a .45 and that is my primary choice---but it is not the only choice I have.
I do not feel the need for a 44mag in any platform.
I have a new .41 mag and I like it.
I will never carry a weapon I can't shoot and do not have complete confidance that it will perform---it may not but going in I am sure I can trust it.
I carry:   a .380, .38, .38super, 9x23, 9mm, .45 (both semi & revolver), .41 mag, .357mag and it will be my luck that the one I have on me will fail ::)---but going in I will have done all I can to make sure it doesn't.

In my 40 plus years of handgun shooting revolvers have had the edge  by far in reliabilty. On the other hand my last five purchases have been autos.

Bending over for brass pickup is a good reason to let a young shooter tag along for some shooting fun to save an old back.

As for road rage, my lone incident was solved with a .357 Blackhawk that I happen to have at the time.

  I use the trash-grabber with a fish landing net in the other hand, works good.  Got this from a friend.  Now I just need a brass magnet to locate missing brass. :)

I carry my 357 wheel gun hunting with me as a backup to my rifle...not that I've ever needed it.  It also is a dang good carry piece if not worried about concealing it.  One thing is for sure...if it don't stop a bad guy before it's empty, I either missed or he's superman......In either case I hope I can throw it at him and run.
