Marlin model 62

Interested in buying a Marlin 62 in either .30 Carbine or .256 WinMag.  Whats the going freight for one?  See a few parts for them but never a complete gun.  Have C&R only.

About $250-275 for a rough one to about $500-550 for real nice ones.  Expect to pay more for the 30 Carb, there were fewer made.  Gun shows and Gun List are usually the best shopping.  Those I've seen on the web have usually been somewhat overpriced for the condition.  BOL

Last Friday a buddy bought a Marlin 62 in 256 for $350. It is in good to excellent condition, and he has located a set of dies to borrow. To me, the cartridge is more interesting than the rifle, and I would love a plinker single shot in 256 Win. Bullet choices ain't great, but it would likely be a good cast bullet slinger (but not likely in the Marlin, as it is a Micro-Groove barrel).

That isn't true.There were only 5960 256Win Mags made for Marlin,versus 7996 in 30 Carbine.Even if you added the 1758 256Win Mags made for Western Auto they are still fewer made at 7718 of the 256Win Mag than the 30 Carbine.

I have a Marlin 62 which I was  lucky enough to buy for $25 because someone thought it was obsolete.
 I had it rechambered to 357 Mag because I wanted to hand it down to grand kids and not have to see them hand load exclusively. The 357 is not going to be obsolete anytime soon.
 So far I have had occasion to harvest a single Blacktail deer with it. It was a clean one shot kill to the brisket.
 I enjoy this gun so much it has become my plinker. It has a Williams Foolproof sight but am thinking of going to the Leupold 2-7 Compact which I already have. The mounts are the same used for the Marlin 336 so not a problem.
 The 256 was a great cartdige. Only availability or lack of it prompted me to do the conversion. Best of luck. POW
