Remington '48 Sportsman Shotgun
« on: January 08, 2011, 07:29:36 AM »
My father has a Remington '48 Sportsman 12 guage Shotgun with Polychoke.  It is 8 of 10 with no rust and appears to be in very good condition.  What would the approximate value be of this gun?  Is this considered one of the good models made by Remington?

I have a Remington Sportsman 48 in 20 ga. Its an excellent shooter. Some parts are available from Numerich if you should have trouble. Yes this shotgun is one of Remingtons "good" ones. I thought most all of Remingtons shotguns were "good" ones.

I agree, the Remington sports mans are nice guns. Not worth much on today's market but really good shooters.

I have the Sportsman 48 in 20 gauge as well. Mine has seen better days, but still functions flawlessly. I consider all of Remington shotguns good ones, but consider others a little better. :)

Parts for Remington "Sportsman 48" and 11-48 & Remington Mohawk all interchange per gauge.  My first auto was an 11-48 in 16 ga.  It was stolen but have replaced it along with several others.  They were made in 12; 16; 20; 28 and 410 with and without vent ribs.  Around here going price is $250 up depending upon options.  Skeet & Trap highest prices but regular vent rib around $300.  Plain barrel/mat rib $150 up depending upon condition.  Very early 12 ga  guns were also offered with rifle sighted slug barrels but they discontinued them because of lack of demand.
