Do you reload? If not, here is your excuse to start. 30-06 brass is easily converted to 35 Whelen, and you can load anything from cast to pistol bullets, to 250 grain Nosler Partitions if you so desire. I like the 225 grain NP in this round, though the Balistic Tip makes for a great deer bullet where a little quicker opening is desired. I have used Rem factory ammo in this caliber in the past, and it worked well. I have a pre-war Mauser converted to 35 Whelen, as well as a Browning BLR in 358 Winchester (308 necked up to 35 cal.), and either gun is as good an all around big game caliber as you will find for 300 yard and under hunting.
