Does anyone own a Cannon safe from Tractor supply (to keep their handi rifles in :)).  If so, how do you like it, or what don't you like?  I am considering one.

Tim, Please move this if it violates the rules.  I just saw no other place to put it, and I would actually be storing my handis in it.

Mine didn't come from tractor supply. But, I have a 54 gun I bought about twenty-five years ago that I love. Holds lots of toys and fire proof to boot. I also have a liberty safe that I like very well.

I have one of the 24 gun Cannon's from TSC. I've had it for about 3 years. I had a problem with the lock right at the get go. I called Cannon, they sent a locksmith out on their dime and had it fixed for me. Been extremely happy with it ever since.
My only real complaint was getting it in the house. My wife (very petite) and I were sliding it out of the back of my truck on to a homemade furniture dolly (weighs about 50 pounds). I was on the bottom trying to do most of the work to keep her from hurting herself when...you guessed it...the wheels on the dolly twisted, causing the whole rig to snap together, mouse trap style. It went so fast I heard the "BAM!" of them coming together before I knew what happened. Crushed 3 fingers total, both hands were involved, and I actually called my doctor at one point and asked him how much a finger could swell before it burst. Being the kind, gentle person he is (he's the SWAT Doc on our team), he told me to let them burst or drill a hole in the nail, my choice. I took the latter. Fully recovered now, but I will be more careful next time...and maybe get the top end!

We sell alot of 'em (I work at a TSC store)... especially the 6030 and 6040 models. Nobody ever compains about 'em after the sale so they must be OK. We've had a couple of the smaller ones come from the factory with the locks not working properly. A worker from Cannon came out and replaced the lock mechanism. The models with the digital locks have never given us a problem. :)

thanks for the inside story. :)
They seem to be the best deal for the money.  The only thing I noticed is they get quite a bit of handling while on display, and most stores display all of their stock.  the ones in the store near me are gouged and scratched.  they did say they could order one for me though.

Have them raincheck one for you. It's the same as ordering it for you but won't cost you the special order shipping cost. If you don't mind taking a floor display model you can haggle with them on the price. Us employees get a 15% discount so use that as a guideline for how much to offer... if you want to deal on one ask for a team leader or a manager and deal directly with them. Team leaders and managers can look up the actual store cost and figure a real number for you as far as the "out the door price". DON'T BE AFRAID TO HAGGLE... the TSC policy is "Whatever it takes is exactly what it takes". We will always work with the customer to make a sale.

I forgot to tell you about "ship to store"... you can go to the TSC online site and buy products... after you buy something you can have it shipped to the nearest TSC (no extra cost) and they will call you when it arrives at the store. Anything that is online can be "shipped to store" for you.
That's a pretty good way to get items that aren't stocked in all the stores.
We also do "store to store" transfers from other TSC stores in the district... if another store in the district doesn't have what you need tell them to check neighboring districts... they can still transfer things but it might take a couple days longer to get it. If the item is in the same district it usually takes a couple days to get it and it doesn't cost you any extra.
If you want to get notifications of sales and promotions just add your name to the TSC mailing list and they will send you sale papers and specials in the mail before the sales start.
You can also get a TSC credit card that you can use online or in store... you just fill out the application and a store team member calls it in... it takes about 3 minutes and you can get up to $4000 credit line.

About six years ago I was safe shopping and also thought Cannon looked like a good deal.  Several other safe companies have jumped on the in home warranty bandwagon, but Cannon was the original.  The Dunhams stores in our area always had good deals on them, and their American Eagle line with the thinner plate steel door was particularly affordable.  I decided to find out the real scoop and went to Anchor Safe in Warren which is a major commercial safe dealer/service company.

Found out when I got there they were the exclusive Cannon dealer for Michigan.  Apparently, because the chain stores had buildings in other states, that they were able to get the Cannon brand and sell them in Michigan.  This irked Anchor Safe as they not only couldn't compete with the low prices due to volume buys from the big chains, they also couldn't get any inventory for themselves.  The gentleman that described all their features to me was actually one of their licensed safe crackers and said he had never seen a single Cannon that anyone had sucessfully gotten into, even the ones with plate steel doors.  He said usually, the safes are banged up pretty good and the dial/keypad knocked off.  Cannon would dispatch them to open the safe for the customer to remove their contents, then Cannon would do a no cost exchange.  At the time they were also the exclusive region service reps.  I left there very confident that any Cannon safe would be a good investment.

I bought one of the big American Eagle safes from Dunhams and couldn't be any happier.  By the way, security wise a dial is no safer than the keypad, so you might as well go for convnience and get the pad.

Since then, I've spoken with another independant locksmith about the safes.  He said, whatever you do don't put any pressure on your handle until you have entered the combination.  Apparently, there is a very small pin that will shear if you put too much force on the handle.  He said many folks find this out after their kids are messing around when they're not around.  After the pin shears, the handle will free spin and you'll need a 'smith to fix it.

Good post Crow Buster... the Cannon's are very tough. From the smallest safe to the largest... they're all built to the same standard.

Is a handi worth putting in a safe??? I thought you were supose to leave them lieing around, hopeing someone would steal "them" instead of your "good" guns??  JUST KIDDING!!  lol  Anyway, yes i have a safe from TSC, and the biggest problem i have with it, is the same problem you will have with all safes...  They over rate the size, SO, get a lot bigger one than you think you need.

Hey, its a gun safe , not your 'profilin' car, truck or bike! Dicker down a scratched one and feed the habit with the bucks saved (ammo or guns). The scratch(es) arent going to affect what it's real job is.
