Spanish FR8

Just saw one of these and wondered if anyone has experience. I have another 308 and would use this one to target shoot and going after Pigs in the Texas Brush.

I sold one of them to my nephew a couple of years ago. He needed a deer rifle, and after borrowing mine several years in a row--he wanted to buy it. Shot real well. I hated to sell it to him, but for family???

He told me that when he went shooting with his buddies (All cops) that they couldn't believe that he was shooting as good as them with just the peep sites that came on it, and they were using scopes. Either he is a good shot, or his buddies aren't , IMO. But the rifle did shoot real well, I enjoyed it a lot. With the sites that came on it, I felt that a deer up to 150 yards away would have been mine using it, and I don't claim to be a real good rifle shot.

Yes we love our scopes these days. I never used one untill I got in my late 40's. Iron  signs have their own fun. I need to check these out. have 3 more spaces on my den wall for military guns.

Awesome rifel BUT the peeps in the low light aren't too useful  ;)  Found that out the hard way.....if I recall though (without opening the safe) the FR-8 has a v notch for the short range?  Maybe th FAL was the only one with all peeps?

Never regret getting my super nice example....now an FR-7 would be cool too!

"Awesome rifel BUT the peeps in the low light aren't too useful"

That's interesting. All U.S. military rifles have been equipped with peep sights since WWll. I guess they don't fight in low light conditions.
In my own experience I much prefer a scope on hunting rifles but Colorado does not permit scopes on muzzleloaders so my muzzleloading hunting rifles wear peeps. If there is light enough to see the front sight and see the critter I can make the shot with a peep having a 1/8" aperture. Open sight shooters tend to shoot very high in dim light because they can't see the front bead down in the dark rear notch so they hold it up where it can be seen and shoot over the critter's back. Granted, a tiny pin hole aperture is useless in poor light but ream it out to 1/8" and you have the best hunting iron sight ever made.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

The muzzle always caught my eye in my old C&R surplus store.  The little short rifle always looked bad @ss. But the prices always seemed higher over the other bolt action surplus rifles.  Funny i never picked one up.

CoyoteJoe.......hmmmmm never thought about how many military rifles had peeps.  My response comes from exactly as you describe.  Sitting in the stand until its "too dark" and a nice doe comes out.  I thought "easy as pie".  Pulled the rifle up to my cheek and went "huh?"  I couldn't aquire the front site picture.

Some may say this means its too dark....I felt fine with the shot as it was still legal hours AND a clear definition of what your target was.

If I had a single shot 12 Gauge I would have made the shot.  I did as you wrote.....lined up as best I could and shot.  I missed it.   So now I don't carry a peep site rifle with me unless its a walk around the "loop" in the afternoon.

Back to the rifle, it is a very "handsome" rifle.  Thats a good descriptive word.

They do offer the glow in the dark paint and just a tad will do on the front and around the rear peep site.  It can always be removed.
