I went out to one of the new farms I am allowed to hunt this after noon. I sat there a little over an hour before I saw anything at all. Then this guy pops up out of his hole. That would be the top picture. Well after I shot him another one popped up out of his hole and he was so close I could not even get my scope to focus on him. He was just a big blur in the scope so I held the cross hairs center mass and pulled the trigger. I missed him I think the bullet went right over his head.
I never shot at a Groundhog that close. He went back in his hole so I figured I would wait him out and hope he pops back out. I also decided to move the truck further away so when he did come back out I could at least focus the scope on him. While moving the truck there were 2 little ones that popped their heads up out of their hole that they were sharing. I parked the truck between the 2 holes so I could watch both and shoot witch ever popped up first. Well those 2 little ones popped their heads up first and I trained the cross hairs on them and would have had a double with one shot because they were perfectly lined up. I pulled the trigger and the gun went click. I forgot when I moved the truck I closed the bolt with out chambering a round. So by the time I did chamber a round they were no longer lined up so I just picked the one on the right and shot him. The other one disapeared down the hole so I waited for about 3 or 4 minutes and sure enough he popped his head out to have a look at what had happened. I pulled the trigger on him as well. I shot at 4 different Groundhogs in 20 or 25 minutes and got 3 of them. That ties my personal best day of 3 in a day.
I still have to make it back there tomorrow to get the one I missed. I have taken 5 out of that one field in the last week or so.
Well enjoy the pictures and take care Dale
