44 Special for deer hunting?

Has anyone used the 44special for deer and what would be a good load for it this is a Taurus with 6.5 inch barrel adjustable sights double action.I dont reload so is there any loaded ammo,thanks sorry for all the questions. needed to know.

Sorry for not getting back on you post quicker. I know several hunters that use 44sp in hand guns for deer hunting. All reload and use hard cast bullets. You can buy a 200 grn hp a defense load that would work in our area. I live in central Iowa and most of our shots are -60yds in cover. Get into reloading or get with a reloader to fix you up.

If you are considering only loaded ammo, I have shot a few boxes of Hornady 44 Special 180 grain JHP/XTP's and found them pleasant to shoot and accurate.  This load has a muzzle velocity of 1000 fps and the XTP has a good reputation as an accurate hunting bullet.

Ideally, you should be hunting out of a tree stand, where distances are short, and approach your shot selection like a bowhunter would.
