Way Cool #1s
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:59:03 AM »
In the process of finishing the forarm on my #1s - 45/70.

Have loved #1 rifles for years and years - probably from the first ad I saw, but don't do Alexander Henry forends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Always went with the #1B until I got a good deal on a 300 wim. mag with that ugly forend.

What to do??????????????

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaha, cut of the forend at a 45 degree angle just behind the grove, and add a forend tip.

First one I tipped with contrasting walnut for a very good result.

On my recent addition, a #1s - 45/70 I decided to go with ebony.

The barrel band is close to the forend, so the ebony needs to be short, but with the tiny size of this rifle, this fits right in for a very classy look.

Just put on the second coat of finish on the forend this morning and it is looking, "Way Cool."

While in this process, I also glas bedded and then floated the forend, so things should be ready to go about the time my new LBT mold shows up.

Love those #1s!

Keep em coming!

Morn'in Crash87

I have about 10 or 11 coats of finish on the forarm wood, so it is about ready to show off.

Need to see if I can read instructions - someplace????? - on posting images to the GB site.

Need a 4 yearold to help.

I can get high quality digital images and can usually get them sent to people, but have yet to post to a site.

Anyway, the forend IS meeting expectations and depending on how many coats I can get on each day, should soon be ready to show off.

Will make sure and get the images recorded, BEFORE I take it out and scuff it up with use.

I can send images to a person's "E" address, so that may be my option if folk wish to send me such info.

keep em coming!

So...Let me get this straight. You can take a fine piece of walnut, cut a portion off near the end..at a 45 degree angle, no more...............no less.............. install a contrasting piece of exotic, meld it into one fine looking piece of artistry..................and then, have trouble posting PICTURES!!!!!  ;D
Seriously If I can do it.............Hint; Just make sure your pics are small enough to begin with, you may need to resize before uploading, otherwise you will have a problem. of course I speak from experience.  ::)

Morn'in Crash87,

YEP, you do have the picture.

However, I did go to some posts here on GB and printed off the directions on how to do this thing that every 4 year old now seems to be born with.

POOTER skills.

My "CDOC" at the end of my posts, stand for "Crusty Deary Ol'Coot" so maybe that gives some indication of the problem.

It really frys me to get a new piece of pooter related or digital equipment it comes with NO DIRECTIONS!!!!!!!!!!

Just a CD or DVD and now I'm, an Ol'Coot, told to go onto the pooter to figure out how to run the pooter etc.

Oh me ??? ??? :-\ :-[

I can read the info - from GB -  I printed off last night, but not sure about the image sizing thing yet.

Be'in an Ol'burnt out photograher, I have a thing about image quality and therefore max out resolution with this new fangled technology and it sometimes overloads things.

Anyway, will attempt to get er done, as soon as the forarm wood is ready.  LOOK"IN GOOD!!!!!

Well, the forarm has been back on for awhile now, and it does look Great with the ebony tip.

Sure wish someone would be nice to me and walk me through, step by little step, the posting of photographs.

Everyone always leaves out more then half of the info an Ol'Coot like me needs to get'er done.

darrel, any number of people would have gladly traded forends to get that "ugly" piece that you cut down. the alexander henry is very desirable by most #1 collectors. as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder and i am sure you have a good looking item.

Yep, Dorothy Daily, I realize I am in the minority on this Alexander Henry thing, but even loving the #1 since waaaaaaay back, never could handle that one.

As I said in my first post on this subject, avoided Ol'Alex until I figured how to make him compatable in this house hold.

Now, I really like the short and trim forend even better then the #1b. With the addition of a nice forend tip that is!

Daman, Yep, I am a really Ol'coot when it comes to Pooter stuff.

I down loaded a photo sizing program that is supposed to help and when I open it up, it expects me to know way more then I do so it at this point is unusable.

I will take you up on your offer of help, but be warned I am a hard case.  Way better then I used to be, but I really need  good, step by step AND printed directions to get started, which in this pooter age seem to be a thing of the past.

I'm an old and burnt out - before the Pooter age - photographer, so even though I have moved into the digital photography age, I have a hard time doing anything with the images online.

Usually takes me a few tries to get an image sent out.

Thanks.

Keep em coming!
