case neck broke off in sizer die
« on: October 20, 2010, 03:05:10 AM »
A .243 neck stayed in the die and was wondering how to get it out. I'll see if I can find a wood dowel that fits and push it out. Thanks for any ideas.

an easy out will work. When I shot IMHSA we had an easy out welded to a length of drill rod with a t handle on the other end to reach into mainly XP-100's to retrive necks and half cases. We would shoot brass way to many times but money was tight .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

Check your outlets (say Menards or Lowes) if you don't own a tap n die set as the easy out's can often be purchased in indiviual packages.

When all else fails, stick it in the freezer.

You may want to email the die manufacturer and see what they say.
If it were me (assuming the decapper stem is out) I'd try running a 14-28 tap in it, then use a 3/16 rod or bolt in the top of the die and hammer the tap (and neck) out. YMMV.

I used a small screw driver sharpened to a point to push on the top edge after spraying it with WD40 and it popped out real easy. Big suprise. I'll remember the easy out next time around. Thanks.
