Info for those who shoot Fed Value pack .223

For those who shoot the Federal Value  .223 55gr FMJ. I bought a pack yesterday cause I wanted to lay in some more ammo! I have had good luck reloading Fed brass and thought another hundred round of reloadable plinking/shtf ammo would be a good idea. I tried to find info on it but only found a couple of reviews!  So I decided to through some over the chrony to see how they do! Here's the info.

Firearm: Colt AR15 Match Target 20" scope 4x Barska 1.7 twist
Cart: 55gr FMJ Value Pack 5 rounds!
Range: 100 yards
Group 2.5"

1. 3003 fps
2. 3019 fps
3. 3036 fps
4. 3052 fps
5. 3069 fps

SD65.50
ED 26.07
 
Pretty consistant but was surprized it didn't group better -good enough for plinking and SHFT duty though!

If I've said it once I've said it 1000 times don't waste your time shooting FMJ BT bullets for groups especially 55g m855 clones.

Honestly I'm surprised they grouped as well as they did as these are easily the least accurate rifle projectile mankind has yet devised

 For the most part I agree with you! That being said it is good to know what your ammo will do as many stack this stuff up to use in an emergency situation.  Now unlike the Fed XM193 ball this stuff is marketed for plinking/target use! Though it could be a good effective SD round as well!  Now I have found the XM193 Ball to be pretty accurate atleast in my rifle!

No offense but that's a pretty terrible group! Fliers do count ya know.

 Cold bore fliers count?  Yours was shot with what power scope? Mine was open sites! 

Well anyway you got me thinking, I decided to pull 5 of those Federals down and do some checking!
 Case OAL after resize.      Charge wt           Bullet wt
1. 1.739"                           25.7gr               54.4gr
2. 1.740"                           25.8gr               54.7 gr
3. 1.740"                           26.3 gr              54.6 gr
4  1.740"                           25.9gr               54.5 gr
5  1.740"                           26.0 gr              54.9 gr

As we can see cases look good other then being SHORT!  The charge wt is wacked especial for .223! Bullet wt so so!  Now the challenge I remanned these to the following loads:

Case oal 1.740", 26.0 gr charge, same bullets/primers, loaded to OAL 2.200"  Original COAL was 2.195" avg. 
Lets see if this improves the accuracy any! Might prove my point that reloads are better then any Factory rounds.

My point is fliers do count (you would have chosen a better grip if you had one) and FMJBT's are crap in the accuracy dpt.  It has to do with the way the projectiles are made with the jacket ends oriented to the base of the bullet

I love fed brass for the fact  everyone hates it for being soft (free) and I like it because it's so short by the time it needs trimmed the primers are so loose it's time for the scrap bucket

It's great when you get the one load that works real good in a rifle! I finally got the SEI 69gr HPBT's to shoot in mine-almost gave up on them!
