A new conspiracy theory
« on: August 17, 2010, 12:15:52 PM »
A couple of weeks ago I ask for help about Yahoo changeing my email to the new system. I was advised to switch back to classic. I did, and have had to do it again 6 or 7 times since then. My mail wouldn't open or forward right with the new sysem or the old classic but less so. Lots of other stuff was slow and eratic.

Yesterday I got a popup for an AVG update. It was an update for the free 9.0. Hummmmmm, I bit. The upgrade also came with a Yahoo toolbar (I didn't know until I clicked download and before it was installed) that displayed the AVG 9.0 infrmation.

Guess what, email problems seem to be cured. Time will tell.

If this isn't my paranoid immagnation it is truely "Us Against the Machine" and we arn't makeing any "Blows Against the Empire" eddie

Unlikely linked.  Especially since less than 2 days ago I checked my Yahoo mail just fine on my Linux machine running Chromium (for which AVG nor the Yahoo toolbar is available) and it worked fine ;).

Morden, sounds like you didn't have the problem of an old underpowered computer to start with. eddie

Nah, I keep my computer pretty spiffy.  It gets a new motherboard and CPU usually once per year - sometimes less than that.  It's currently sporting a 6-core 2.8Ghz AMD Phenom II x6 CPU with 8GB of RAM, a Geforce GT240 graphics card, 1 150GB WD Velociraptor system hard drive, and 3 2TB hard drives setup into a RAID5 array for data storage.  I work with computers for a living though so it's just another hobby of mine :).

Your machine will do more turned off than mine will running.

I didn't know when I first read your post if you had a lot of capacity or if your system was built so far away from standard OS that no one built software that would attack it.

40 years ago that much power would have taken it's own building just to house it.

I can't operate a wireless router modum in my own home, or even a wireless mouse. A fulltime scanning virus/firewall protection will prevent my system from starting up. (It is a POS.)  ;D  eddie
