Maybe that Sorcha person's brain has been HAARPed? Whew what loony stuff!
I understand that C-17 crashed very shortly after take-off. I'm wondering about bird strikes.
Note in Sitka 2 Alaska Airlines jets hit eagles in the last week. One had its engine disabled.
Here is a link to a web cam that shows Lake Aleknagik. The lodge in question is roughly located to the right and behind the last mountain slightly left of the center background. From the sketchy reports I'm not clear where the crash site is.

http://akweathercams.faa.gov/viewsite.phpWeather today is slightly better - ceilings are a little higher, but still windy foggy, intermittent rain.
TM7 look up the Anchorage Daily News online and they have lots of details and some photos of the plane and crash site.
Spike: Regarding the numerous plane crashes in AK: We have very very few roads and 100's mile of country, so most travel is by air. We have many Air Taxi's - smaller 1 and 2 engine planes carrying 4 to 10 people. On a nice day I'd say I have planes going over my house from 8:30 am to 9 or 10 at night - I'm on the approach path. We have more planes and pilots per capita than anywhere else in the world and with all that comes the increased probabilities for accidents. Real quick I can think of 10 friends and acquaintances who are pilots and have planes.
In a possibly ironically timed post, our local Catholic priest and pilot wrote an article about his rules for flying around here. Note he says he had waited 12 days for suitable flying weather. All that time many lodges and air taxis were flying nearly every day.

Had hoped to take the boys up fishing right there but weather has just been the pits all summer. And king salmon fishing was closed by emergency order 'cause of a poor run.
