Anyone know of a 25 cal wildcat for the levers (336 & 94 BB ) based on the 307 Winchester? Seems like it might have a little more power than the 25/35 AI which is actually a great round in its own right. Best of luck. POW

POW:  Let's see - the 6mm Rem/243 are 308s necked to 6mm.  The 307 is a rimmed 308.  I don't know how the length of the 308/307 compares to the length of the old Savage 250-3000 but I'm wondering if that might not be in the ball park of what you might want - it is one heck of a cartridge.  If you are looking to strictly wildcat, you could always go to a 6.5/07, which would be like shooting the 260 Remingon through a lever, and that would be on par with a 6.5 Swede and put you into that power range.  The 6mm is a .243 bore, the 25 is halfway or so twixt the 6mm and the 6.5 (.264).  I dunno if there is a 25/08, but I know the 25/06 is a real winner.  This ought to be interesting.  Mikey.

What you are doing is necking the 7MM Shooting Times Easterner to 25.  Makes it equal to the 257 Roberts.  PS- Mikey the 25/08 is called the 25 Souper.

Actually Mikey the 6mm Rem. is a 7X57 case necked to 6MM/243 not a 308 Win. case. Although in performance they are just about twins. There is a 25 caliber on a necked down 308 Win. case called the 25 Souper. One local gunsmith has worked with it some and says it is a great short action round. I do not know if anything has been written on the 25/307 but My guess is that it has been done before but I have no idea what it is called. I'll look later in my Wildcat Cartridges book and see if I can find anything there. It is a good resourse but doesn't come close to listing all wildcats. I don't think that could be done in just one book.

Bruce I am very big on the 25 Souper and am thinking of a rimmed version of it. Thats what a 25/07 would be near as I can determine. I have an old 336 with 24" barrel that would like this round. Best of luck. POW

The main problem with this project is bullets since there are really only a few factory bullets for use in a tube magazine...60 gr Hornady, 75 gr Speer and 86gr Remington flatpoint 25/20 bullets (too light, fragile) and the 117gr Hornady for the 25/35 (designed for lower velocity and a bit heavy).  Really need a custom (or custom altered) 100gr flatpoint.  Building up a Contender or Encore does not count; this was to be a tube fed levergun.   Building this wildcat would be like building an airplane that you know won't fly.  Without the right bullet, its remains a dream.

Ya but, you can load spitzer type bullet by two's. One in the chamber, and one in the tube.  :D

Blackhawk 44 I had in mind the same bullets as the 25/35 or 25/35 AI would use. Seemed about right to me at the time. Best of luck. POW
