Tapered bore?

What kind of cannon had a tapered bore and is 15" long with the bore opening of 1 1/2". The seller claims it came from and unknown ship from 1900 and was a bow gun. Did anchor cannons or a lyle gun have a bore like that?

Dom - I know you know that the video you posted was made and narrated by Cannonmn, but what I didn't know at the time he first posted that vid on this board, was that those are all his swivel cannons.

Boom J,It is a gun that actually fires a anchor out so the boat wouldn't have to drop it and then backup or forward to drop the other for stability.they do look like a lyle life saving gun.

OK, I've never heard of that before, but I don't think that the 15'' length and 1½'' bore at the muzzle sounds like it would fit the bill.
Does this seller have anything else to help ID the piece, such as a photo, or at least a more detailed description?
There were at one time swivel cannons used that would be around that length, but they were used in the fighting tops of sailing ship's masts, and that was from a period well before 1900.

Yeah the one I seen was alot bigger than that with 3" bore, you can see it if you go to craigs list in Seattle and type in cannon.

I went and found the $1500.00 :P cannon you're talking about, and it is to put it kindly, a home made affair with a goofed up bore. As our Richard "The New Yorker" has been known to say 'fuggettaboutit'. :D

I agree with you BoomJ. Probably no more than 15 years old. From the look of the swabs, it probably has a straight bore with a chamber. They are probably calling it a tapered bore because they don't know  diddly about cannons.

Topic was opened as a discussion topic and not a pointer so well within rules to discuss.

I think what we are looking at is a homemade neglected, brass howitzer, that might be worth $250-300.  If authentic and provenance is available then it might worth more.
