SR9's heavy trigger, any aftermarket part to lighten it?
« on: June 23, 2010, 07:54:05 AM »
I have one of the post-recall SR9's, and I checked the weight of the trigger and it comes out at 7 pounds using my Timney scale device.  A fellow at the local gun shop told me yesterday that the recall that they had on them was because the triggers had been too light, a legal risk with the lawsuits, etc.

I shot my SR9 at the range a few weeks ago and after 50 rounds of ammo my finger was getting sore.  Overall, I like the gun, excellent point ability, never jams, reasonable accuracy for a striker fired pistol.  My other double action pistols when fired single action run about 5 pounds, and are easier on the finger.  Are there any aftermarket parts or techniques to improve the trigger on one of these?

First of all, the recall was because the gun was prone to AD when dropped, not too light of a trigger. ::)
The first thing to check is the striker channel. Mine was full of grit, and after pulling the striker and flushing the channel out with Breakfree CLP, the trigger was improved greatly. After that, I replaced the trigger reset bar, with one from Ghost Inc. I chose the "Tactical" model, and my trigger breaks right around 4 lbs.  ;)

Hope this helps

Hello,

The best replacement part I know costs around $ 600. It is a Springfield XDm trigger and comes with the barrel, clips, and all the other parts too. I wanted so badly to like the SR9 but as mach as I tried, I could not do it. I chose the XDm over all the other pistols on the market and am not sorry. Good luck with your pistol, just please, take it to a good gunsmith so that you can safely enjoy shooting with no worries.

Well, Dave... we had opposite experiences.  I've got both weapons and while the XDM is a solid performer, the SR-9 is much more comfortable to shoot, easier to carry concealed, and was probably the best gun "out of the box" in my 50 years of shooting.  I'm sure that everybody out there is looking for "one answer", but it's different strokes for different folks.

I carry a Para P-12 in .45ACP, but absolutely love shooting the SR-9.  I find the grips on the XDM to be a bit "sticky", and while the gun shoots great, it just doesn't feel right to me.

I didn't have a problem with the SR-9 before it was recalled, and don't really think the new triggers are all that special.   It was the company trying to "idiot proof" their gun so it didn't fire when dropped, and while the trigger switch was their cure, they did other stuff to the gun too.

I try not to get into the "caliber wars" and the "brand wars", but I've liked the SR-9 ever since they first came out, and think they are one of the top guns on the market in their price range.  I love the looks of the "black steel" ones, but they are almost impossible to rack if there's any oil at all on your hands... the "silver tops" don't seem to have that problem.  I'd like for them to put some front "slide grips"  at the front of the black models, because they are so difficult to  operate.

I had my pistol smith redo my SR9 after the recall, it was good before , but the recall  messed it up for me. I had a XD 9, sold it, like the SR9 better, easier carry and easier to shoot. I still have a 45 and 40 Tacticals XD's.
