CZ 550 carbine.
« on: August 10, 2010, 04:17:28 AM »
I've decided to buy a CZ 550 Full stock carbine in 6.5 x55. After researching this calibre ,and shooting a rem 260 for a couple of years I realy like the .264 bullet. Is this a good quality rifle, solid and accurate? It will be the companion to my Rem model 7.

I have the 550 American in 6.5x55.  It really loves the 100grn Nosler Partitions.  I took a deer at the end of the pasture in front of my house.  The shoot was around 500 yards.  The old doe never knew what hit her!

To answer the question it is a fine quality rifle.  Mine has the set trigger and can be set VERY low poundage!!!  Mine is around 24 ounces.

I had the full length model with walnut stock and jeweled bolt in 30-06 for a long time.  It was a beautifully made gun, adjusted the trigger down to a lower weight.  It really liked the Sierra Match king bullets that I handloaded for.

My main complaint is the scope mounts use a clamp on V notch on the receiver like the .22's use.  It did not hold properly and my scopes would move/slide from the heavier 30-06 recoil, several scopes got scratched up from this.  CZ should have used something solid to mount the scope rings like everybody else does.  Upon ejection of the spent casing they would ding up the wooden stock on the side, weird.  Sold the gun off.  Your cartridge of choice should kick less than the 30-06.

I have several other CZ rifles, they are very nice, I won't get another 550 though.
