T/C hunters what is a good .243 load?
« on: October 26, 2010, 06:05:39 AM »
What is a good factory .243 load for deer I have a encore in a 15 inch barrel? I don't hand load (well I do but shotguns) so what am I looking for when I'm trying to choose a good load? I'm in upstate NY the average deer here is about 170 dressed out I get very few shots past 150yds but of course it's possiable to get them on field edges. Ideally I would like something that will expand and make a good hole but is flat and acurate or as good as the guy shooting it can be.  I don't really understand all the ballistic point or other terms on bullets, I live in shotgun country so all I needed to know was sabot or not.

I'm also from upstate ny but our average weight is quite a bit less, if you use the 95-100 gr.soft point it'll do the job if placement hits the mark.

OK starting to panic a little, maybe I'm looking into this to much, but what style of bullet do I want, do I want something that expands or do I want something that doesn't? I'm getting a little confused. I've zeroed in with Remington express core-lokt in 100 gr, is this a good choice for deer?

Corelokt's will work.
The 95 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip will work good as well as ammo loaded with the Sierra Game King.

What XPHUNTER said. 100 gr CoreLocks work great. I used them in a .243 carbine for over a decade and they will do the trick.
