Para Ordnance Unintentional Hammer Fall
« on: September 07, 2010, 06:21:56 AM »
My dad just bought a Double stack Para and when the slide is released, the hammer falls on half-cock. Its a fairly common occurrence now and I could almost get it to do it every time. Where should we begin fixing this problem? Also, we could pull the trigger without depressing the grip safety. His was was noticeably more loose than the one on my SA Gi45.  Seems to me like the finger on his flat spring isn't putting enough pressure on the grip safety. But I'm not sure how this would let the hammer fall as we weren't pulling the trigger when the slides released. He's also looking for a flat metal mainspring housing to replace the factory arched plastic one. Any ideas?

Single VI,

Is this a new pistol?  If not or maybe even so, it should go back for FACTORY repair. If the trigger isot being touched and the hammer falls to half cock when the slide is released, the sear-hammer-disconnector have issues; potentially dangerous issues. If you can locate a reliable and knowlegeable gunsmith, that truly knows the 1911, have him look at it. Historically with the 1911's that I have seen with issues, they were used, and a shade tree gunsmith diddled with something they knew nothing about.
