.22 Hornet extractor for Savage 219 B
« on: September 23, 2010, 05:56:24 AM »
They don't exist.

My options are as follows

1) Buy a 30-30 extractor from Numrich and have material added to work on a Hornet. $17 delivered, plus the labor
2) Mail order a fabricated blank extractor and have it fitted for a Hornet locally. $50 delivered plus the labor
3) Buy the 30-30 (or other 219/220)( extractor and have the gun rechambered.
4) Part the gun out
5) Carry a cleaning rod, and hope one day to trip across an extractor or a rusted out Hornet barrel

I have $100 into the gun/scope, it has no sentimental value, but I would like to shoot it. as well as hunt with it.

Thoughts.

Option number one seems like the way to go. You got a steal on that gun, it's well worth having it fixed properly. I wouldn't consider option number five. With no extractor you have a large open hole in the bottom of the chamber which, combined with the thin Hornet brass, could lead to a blown case head, not likely but possible.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.
