54. cal lyman great plains hunter questions.
« on: August 27, 2010, 12:21:37 PM »
hello.  i had posted this on the wrong page the first time.   i am new to the flintlock thing and came across a 54. lyman gp hunter.   they said it was the 1:32 twist and never fired for $300.  it seems like a great price but i dont know much about them.   so i am looking for some info, the good bad and the ugly about these guns.   thanks.

I have a .54 GP flintlock, but with the slow twist ball barrel, not the 1:32 hunter.  It's a great gun and I recommend it highly.  That's a good price.  Conicals or balls are a personal preference.  I favor the ball in a .54.  Of course, one can always pick up a second barrel for about $120 at Midsouth Shooters Supply and have both.
