Finally... first one... PICS ADDED..
« on: August 28, 2010, 04:35:40 AM »
Got the 243 local.  It's tight, it's crisp, no gaps, wood to metal looks fine.  Tapered 22" barrel, not drill & tap for sights, only scope mount.  Seller said 'unfired'.  Yeah, it still had the tags on in original box.  It's 'handi' alright, shorter than my Marlin carbines.

Only it's got the wee short 'youth' stock, so it's new stock time before I can shoot it fairly, and do a proper JB/kroil barrel break in.

NOT the Handi I've been planning at all, but this forum convinced me I couldn't pass it up.

Now I wanna keep it as is and don't want to swap out 243 for bikerbeans 3030AI barrel.  I guess I gotta get another breech and then.... is there a medicine for this?

 Congrats on your new gun.
Why don't you use your shotgun stock on this one? Till you find the want you want, that way you can get to shootin. ;)

Considered using shotgun stock, but straight comb.  Now it's sold.  Would like to get a more custom looking stock set whether keeping it 243 or going with the 30-30 AI.  They have radically different purposes, so different configurations.  Give me some time and I'll probably put the 'youth' stock set in the classifieds.

I have ideas about what to do with either gun.  Getting old and tired of having 'almost' what I want.  This time I figure on doing it all the way.  Will take a while, but I'll post pictures.  Took awhile to get my daughters 20ga right, but she's very pleased with it.  She's still deciding on a sling.

Thanks for the suggestion.

You asked if there is a cure for the Handi fever?

Yup, short cut to the Classifieds and Handi forum from your desk top ;D add that to a money order or two and you are on your way ;)

Everytime I pickup another Handi from my FFL I tell him it is the last one I am getting.  He always laughs, I guess he is just a happy fellow.

A few years ago (5...6...8)), anyway a number of years ago I ordered an accessory 20 gauge barrel for a receiver which came from the factory with a 243 Superlite barrel and synthetic stocks on it. So I also ordered a pallet wood shotgun stock and just a regular palletwood forend for it. To be honest, it's feels the most comfortable of all my Handis now. The receiver is also now fitted with a 30/30 barrel, which is consistently the most accurate barrel of all my Handi barrels.

Just now returned from the range after sighting it in with Speer 170 grain FP bullets and a generous amount of W748. Antelope season starts on Sept. 10. Now I have to decide what to use for a backup...?  :)
