What to get, what to get... lots of choices out there. I've owned a 1911, and liked it. Kind of heavy, very good-looking, worked okay. I had a HP clone (FEG's PJK-9HP) for a few years, it was about the same - a little wider, more bullets in mag. I most regret selling the 1911, even though I made money on the deal.

The best bang-for-the-buck pistol I ever owned - and by far the most reliable - was a Russian Makarov. I put thousands - yes,THOUSANDS - of rounds through that thing, it never jammed once. Can't say that about the 1911 or PHK-9HP. It was more accurate than either of the two mentioned above. So far as power goes... eh, no big deal... pistol is for keeping you alive long enough to get to your shotgun.

Glocks are butt-ugly, but they shoot good and are light. My absolute favorite service-size pistol is a CZ-75 - beautiful, you can carry it cocked & locked if you'd like, and it has a great trigger. It's far better than 1911 or HP, IMHO.
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.

lda vs hp , hum ...... hum , tuff choice but i would still go with the hp . why because of the little thin piece that is on the right side of the frame that works the action .

Can't go wrong with a Glock.

I also like the Smith 'n' Wesson SD and Sigma series. I carry the Sigma in 9mm which is the Glock rip-off, and btw, you can't beat the SW warranty. I've yet to handle the Smith M/P but so far I've heard nothing but good.

Never thought I'd own much less carry a poly gun. Wasn't long ago I was a died-in-the-wool Model 10 guy so I guess old dogs and new tricks are possible :)

"can't go wrong with a glock" yes you can. I had one that did not work. There are seceral recalls and free up grades to repair defective guns. Then also some like a gun that looks nice like a 1911 or Browning . Others like a good trigger not one that clicks as it breaks . Glock has done well because it works most of the time and is cheap to buy compared to other weapons. As far as beauty or investment that grows no. Insurance yes .
