Need some help
« on: December 22, 2003, 01:07:11 PM »
I need so reloading data from you guys.  For two different pistols.

First is a 44 mag.  It is a 7 1/2" Super Redhawk.  I need a MILD 50 yd. load.  NEEDS TO SHOOT 2" or less with a red dot scope.  Will test from a rest and shoot off hand.  Does not matter what kind of bullet lead or jacketed.

Second is a 10" 7 TCU. Mild but enough to kill the 200 yard Rams at the silhouette course.

Please help me I can't find a good one to use.

Your first request is a pretty tall order.  Your gun may or may not be capable of printing 1" groups at 50 yards.  Most revolvers that are not named Freedom Arms are happy to shoot 1-1.5" groups @ 25 yards, but you are certainly welcome to keep trying.  240gr bullets have been the choice for most uses with a .44 mag, but you should probably try from 180-310gr to see what results you get.  Unique and Blue Dot are good powders for mild to mid-range loads.

As for the 10" 7 TCU, 140gr bullets going faster than 1500-1600fps should provide enough power to take over rams.  This is probably on the minimum side, but you should try it out as there is no teacher like experience.  Some good powders to try here are H322, WW748, H335, H4198, H4895.

For the 44mag that last load I was using was a 240gr GCSWC from a RCBS mould.  Powder was 15.7gr AA#7.  This load shot pretty well from my 7 1/2 in SBH.
For a mild 7TCU load I have been using a 145gr SIL from a RCBS mould.  This is also gas checked.  Powder is 8.0gr Unique.  This load is a real puppy dog but it does take properly set rams.  I shoot it from a 14" TC barrel for the US catagory.  Velocity is around 1450fps from my barrel.  The guy that told me about this load was using it in a 10".

For the 7TCU I use Vihta vouri (sp?) N130 with a 150gr bullet. load data is  available on their web site. Don't let the listed velocities scare you, it is a pretty mild recoiling, low flash powder.

For the .44 I use Lyman #429421 cast of air cooled wheelweights, sized to fit the throats (.433 in the case of my SBH) and lubed with something soft over 8.5gr. Unique. Shoots as good as I can see.

The 7 TCU works well with the RCBS 145 sil. and IMR 4895 at 1550 fps, takes the rams every time!
