Why I Say Crapsman.

  Hello fellow tool owners,

  A pict is worth a thousand words....

 

  Now, i have to tell you this is the "third" 1/2" breaker bar Sears has sent me to replace broken ones, and now "it" has been returned...broken!  This is the first time i've used "this" one!

  No i didn't even have to use a "cheater", as these days their tools are getting cheaper and cheaper...  In the old days, you would have been able to use a cheater and even stand on it!!!

  I broke the first two tightening the lug nuts on my tractor....  I finished the job useing a SK breaker with a cheater...  This breaker wound right off "loosening" the lugs nuts on a 1 ton Dodge dually that has the 5/8" studs....  I finished the job useing the supplied lug wrench that was behind the seat....

  So, boot me if you will, but "these days" Sears is selling crap if you use it like you could there old tools!!!

  BTW, Sears sent me an extension to replace the breaker....  i had to take THAT back to Sears to "wait some more" for a new breaker....

They don't warranty broken knuckles!!!! I agree, Craftsman tools stink. SK is still a good quality tool.

I modified the title for you. I did not see the need to delete the thread. I agree they are not what they once were.

The Craftsman Professional series tools are still good stuff. I use their Pro series ratchets and prefer them to the junk ratchets Snap On sells.

  I had a chance today to use the "new" breaker bar Sears sent me to replace the broken one....  My back is bothering me so i didn't want to jerk on the wrench, so i grabbed a 30" piece of pipe slid it over the handle and pulled on that....  creeeeeek.. the bolt came loose and the breaker bar held...  so far so good..  ;D

I have also outgrown craftsman hand tools.
That guaranty is no good if it breaks every other time you use it.

If you think that's bad try to get a power tool warrantied.
It takes a month at least.
I went without my table saw for two months because of a bad switch.

A buddy of mine had a similar problem on a mower.
Half the summer without his new mower.

From a price-vs-quality perspective, I still think Craftsman makes a good hand tool.  Their power tools are another story and I will not even consider buying them.  I live 5 minutes from a Sears and K-Mart, and 25 from a Sears Hardware, so replacement is not an issue.  If I use a tool 5-10 times, it breaks, and I get a free replacement for a 5 minute drive, I am OK with that.  If I had to send a tool off every time it broke, I would hold a different opinion.

Sears used to swap out broken tools with no questions asked.  Now I find it is not so easy.  They still do it but sometimes I have to put up a fight. 
They are not the company they used to be.

That is exactly what happened in our family circa 1962.   My dad was a commited Craftsman user but the lugs on the tractor were just too much for the 1/2" set.    He bought the 3/4" bar and sockets and problem solved.   I don't have the tractor but I still have the 3/4" set.
