Lets start with my .357 Maxi. On my first range trip I had problems getting any kind of grouping at all using various .357 mag. loads, including factory 158gr. I removed the forend and then the forend spacer and relieved the tension between the hinge and the forend bolt by sanding a bit of wood off the hinge end of the forend. I also used a bit of PC-7 in the barrel channel of the forend, between the forend screw hole and the forend spacer, to float the forend. Back to the range today and it was shooting the .357 mag. ammo better, but still shooting in 4" groups at 50 yards. I only had three .357 Maxi loads with me and in the end figured I would try those before packing it up and all of a sudden I had two bullets in one hole with a third about an inch away. I was using 187gr. Cast Performance bullets over 20.0gr. of Lil' Gun powder. I guess it either likes .357 Maxi loads better or maybe it's just that it prefers the heavier 187gr. bullets. I'll have to load some more of them and get it back to the range.
My .45 Colt carbine was also shooting all over the place today, that is until I used some of my acquired knowledge from this forum and removed the forend and shot off of the receiver. After removing the forend, I put three 250gr. LSWC bullets into one slightly clover leafed hole. The forend seems to have the same problem as the .357 Maxi in that it is tight between the hinge and the bolt. I used the same process I had with the Maxi and will have to see how much it helps on my next range trip.
I already had a great load for my 45/70 using 405gr. Rem. bullets over 48.1gr. of IMR3031, but I have a heavy cast load that worked great in my Marlin 1895 and I wanted to try them in this rifle. The load uses 460gr. Cast Performance bullets over 38.0gr. of Alliant's RL-7(WARNING!! Not to be confused with Accurate No. 7!!). At 50 yards these shot well, but not great. I got a three shot group measuring 2" and running horizontally. The first shot was at the left end of the group, the second to the far right and the third in the middle of the first two. The accuracy of this load may not be ideal, but without a doubt it's still good enough that it would drop anything in N. America.
I also shot my 5.56x45 M4 carbine for the first time since building it. I built it more as a defensive weapon than a varmint rifle, I have a .223 Handi and a .22 Mag. Handi for that purpose. This M4 has a Vortex 4 MOA 1X red dot scope and after firing 8 shots to get the scope set up, I was able to shoot a 12 shot rapid fire group at 50 yards into a 4" group. That should suffice for my intended purpose.

Yah, you might want to look at the forearm faq's for a more permanent fix for the forends, but that's all I'm doing right now also.  I just pull the front tip down about 1/8" and my .45-70 BC shoots great.  Your barrel harmonics might be slightly different if your .45-70 isn't a BC, but I have found in my gun the most accurate loads to be 46.7 gr. Reloader7 and 50.2gr. Reloader7.  I found these sweetspots by doing a ladder first in 1 gr. increments and then in .1 gr. increments.  For trap door level loads, I find 34.3gr. Reloader7 is better than the Mid-30's and this is what my wife shoots.  Hope this helps you some.  ;)  I've taken mine all the way to a max of 51.2gr. with FTX bullets, but groups opened back up to 2"+ at 100 yards.  With the two sweet spots, I get sub moa using factory sights.  ;)

The PC-7 I use to float the forearm is pretty permanent. It's a two part epoxy that when cured is strong enough to be machined. I've used it to bed bolt actions and most of my Handis, that have had forearm pressure issues, now have their forearms bedded with it.

Ah, I didn't catch that it was epoxy.  I have been too afraid to mess up my stocks to do permanent stuff yet, lol.  I haven't as of yet even come close to that grain weight bullet in the colt and wasn't really intending to for me.  300 gr. does everything I need and I think the 255 LSWC I've used is going to be one of the rounds I use for hunting with it.  I'm still seeking that great load for the colt though, so maybe once I try the FTX's I'll go that way.  Hoping to pick some up, but got really busy this weekend, so didn't get a chance to get them yet.  8(

*edit*  nevermind.  I see I misread that about the 460gr bullets.  I see now it was in the .45-70.  I haven't gone that big yet on that either, but I must be getting tired and didn't read it right.  ;)

I have a box of Cast Performance 335gr. LFN GC bullets for the .45 Colt on order from Midway. According to Hodgdon's manual, you can get them up to 1240FPS from a 7.25" handgun barrel. I would think you could get at least 1300-1400FPS from the extra length of the carbine barrel. If I can get the same accuracy from them that I got from the 255gr. LSWC bullets I'll have me a great hunting load.

My days of shooting (like a 45-70) loads from a rifle with a steel butt plate are all behind me. I have enough to deal with using 45-70 loads from my 45-70 and that wears a Limbsaver. LOL!!
