Remington Model 31 interchangability/parts sources?
« on: August 31, 2010, 08:59:14 AM »
Hi.  I picked up an old Remington Model 31 at a fun show recently that some jackass had decided to cut down the barrel to 18.5" and cut the stock rear part on.  Oh, and he also thought it would be a really cool idea to paint the metal silver and the wood black.  ::)

I'm looking at the possibility of trying to fix this poor stick back into something resembling what it once was, but am finding it to be a real problem trying to come up with a 12 gauge Model 31 barrel and stock set.  Any ideas where to look? (Numrich was out) Or alternatively, is there a different model/make that would work for a barrel and/or stock set?  I seem to recall something about the Mossburg 500 being based off these, so I wonder if those parts would fit, if all else fails?  Thanks.

Not to say I'm sure as I'm not but I don't think anything else is gonna work. Back in the day the Model 10 and 31 were what Remington made. I'd not swear to it but I don't think anything else works on those. The Model 58 and 870 barrels can be made to work with each other by drilling a gas hole in an 870 barrel or plugging it in the 58 barrel.

If any of their other guns are so interchangeable I don't recall hearing of it.

The Model 31 and the Ithaca 37 have a lot in common.
You may be able to get a gunsmith to fit a 37 barrel to your 31.
You may have to lenghten or shorten you mag tube or replace the tube with an Ithaca tube and end cap.
You may be the only guy out there with screw in chokes on a M31 if you get an Ithaca tube with the screw in chokes.
