.45 acp in Judge
« on: February 18, 2011, 01:23:05 AM »
Anyone tried this? The full moon clips from the .45 acp revolver chamber the brass perfectly, don't have any loaded ammo to try it.

After reading the post I figured someone would try it. When nobody replied I did. It works and the
group with 230 grain hardball from the 7 yard line was about 3". Shot offhand and pleasantly surprised. I believe the gun would do a lot better if time was taken to try to shoot a real group.

Took some time to try the Judge with several different .45 ACP loads  and a clip of .45 GAP. Everything shot fine, cases looked good, groups were as good as the 45 Colt loads. Looks like
the full moon clips and .45 ACP works fine in my Judge. Makes for a quick reload, and adds
to what I can use in it.

This is funny, someone once asked me the same question about my Super Redhawk in .454 and if .45 ACP's could be fired from it with moon clips.  I suppose so...???

This also worked with the Circuit Judge rifle. One of the guys I shoot with tried it in his and said it shot as well as some of the colt ammo.Wonder if Taurus has thought about it?

Called Taurus and ask about it. Lady told me her boss said it would not work. A .45 ACP would not fit.
Do not think they understood the part about using the full moon clip to hold the rounds. Maybe someone else that has the time to sit on the phone can do better?I bought my Judge to use with
birdshot on snakes, if it was a defence carry gun the clips offer a quick reload. There are some really good
carry loads for the 45ACP, I carry one everyday.  The Judge grouped them surprisingly well.

Had to say something so I can keep up with thread.   Very interesting.  I never thought to try it when I had a Judge.

I have a judge coming and I posted in another thread of a quite informative judge video done by hickok45 on youtube. I also found a couple videos of judges shooting 45 acp with moon clips. The part number from taurus for the moon clips :The moon clips used in this video are:
