they want that info because it makes it more profitable when they sell the application list  because it makes it easier for retailers to target there audience

Actually, they have never sold people on the list.  I get no junk mail from being in their drawings for a long time.  They do use the statistics and publish them, but no personal info is included.  I've been in EVERY drawing they hold for a good while too.  Another tip, is once you've filled that form out the first time, you can just enter your email address, skip the other fields and submit and it enters you after that.  8)
