First impressions .44 rem mag
« on: September 05, 2010, 02:35:11 PM »
Shes a keeper! It was with much trepidation that I made the decision to purchase in the first place due to a long ago Handi-Rifle experience. The decision to purchase this time around was based soley on the fact Marlin was making the barrels this time around. My son and I put the final touches on her today and went to our range. The results are as follows: the 4-shot group was my sons and the 8 shot group was mine.My daughters deerslayer is ready to make her smile! To tell you the truth after reading others results I was not expecting what unfolded. :o

that was the reason i bought mine.i have alot of kids getting to that age,but after playing with it a bit i can't bring myself to loan it out. i have been having a bit of trouble finding a load i'm happy with and i like shooting too much to buy factory ammo. any reason for choosing the 225gr ftx over the other weights? i was thinking of using the 240's in my sons marlin 1894.

My old 44 shoots good but not THAT good. :o
Looks like you got a keeper there. ;D
Have you tried the 180gr. Remington JSP ammo? It shoots well in mine and has a little less recoil than the 240gr. stuff.
Good luck with it.

av-doc,
The only reason I went with the FTX is I heard nothing but praise in terms of accuracy and Natchez had them on sale... ;D We will see what the hair test results have to say.

Spanky,
This was the maiden voyage to the range today,so I have not tried anything else. When I do it will be in the 240 range as my daughter is no stranger to shooting and recoil. Her old set up was a Savage 10 Ml shooting full house smokeless loads with 250 grain bullets.I just wanted to get her a gun that was shorter and lighter and easier for her to handle in a ground blind and 2-man stand.

Nic e !! If I didn't already have a .44, I'd be heading to the candy shop to get one ! Let us know how yours does with cast bullets if you are so inclined.... in my opinion it is one of the best things about a .44, you can get full velocity using lead and it is a whole lot cheaper !! Mine likes .431 dia. 215 gr. bullets over a full house charge of 2400.

Send me some and I wil try them out! ;D Seriously,I do not know if I will roll my own or not.If the other factory offerings I try shoot this well, there may not be a need.I have never reloaded for centerfires before.I may check into the start up expense.

Another good thing Mike is that I put a down payment on this one as it was the last one they had in stock.I called 2 days later to make sure someone would be there to complete the transaction as it was a Sunday. They said sure come on over.Well, I get there and no one there can complete the transaction! I got tweaked over that as it was a 60 miles roundtrip. So,the following Sunday I show up and ask to talk to the manager.I told him about my previous experience and that I did not appreciate having my chain jerked. He agreed and said he did not want to lose my business I walked out the door with a total of $200 incuding tax in it! ;D ;D

Have you ran that over a chrono? The H-110 seems to be pretty popular with local guys.
