What model is a little 38 with E6 stamped on the arm that holds the cylinder?  Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hello
Look closer or clean your Glasses.. ;D I think the E is in turn a 3 and you are speaking of a Model 36 Chief special revolver which is made on the J-Frame... Hammerdown

HAHA.  Thanks for making me look again.  It does say E6, but I also noticed Mod 10-7 on the portion of the frame above the E6 part.  The serial number 8XXXX is below the E6.

The Model 10 is a "K" frame (medium) gun.  The -7 means it is a series 7.  They stamp a progressively higher series number with each model up-date.  Not sure about the E6 stamp.  Nice guns.  20 years ago, when most police departments switched to the new wonder 9's, lots of Smith K frames were flooding the market as police turn-ins, and were selling dirt cheap.  Not any more though.  Prices have climbed quite a bit on the classic Smiths.
