OT poor mans signature holding power rings?

If this has to be moved as is not appropriate for this site I appologize in advance. Handi's is where I generaly hang my hat for reading and usually seems to have the most common sense type of folks.  My question is on a hard recoiling gun I am having trouble keeping the scope from sliding forward. Have 30 mm weaver rings that the band over the scope clips on one side and has two screws on other side. I can see that the band only contacts scope in a thin area at top, and will work on lappin bases as good as I can (don't have a 30 mm lap rod yet).  Has anyone ever tried to put a thin layer of black rtv in base of ring for better grip to scope than metal to metal. And posibly inside band area to widen amount of area contacted on scope.  I just don't have $60 for Signature rings now and wonder if this idea is feasible or would actually be more slippery?

I've used Loctite and even wet/dry sandpaper, both work.

Wrap 1 layer of electrical tape under the rings and see how easy it is (NOT) to adjust the scope.

Pure rubber high voltage insulating tape.  Very soft and pliable, and it ain't movin' once you apply that ....just a small strip will do the job.

Scopes can move one way only FORWARD. So the easy fix for that is to slide it to where the turret rests on the rear of the front ring. If that gives you scope placement that is OK it's the easiest fix.

Dump the junk Weaver rings and go with Burris Signature tho and all your troubles will be over.

   I have used a couple of wraps of teflon tape around the scope tube at the point of contact with the rings, It seems to work good on scopes that you move to different rifles because you dont leave any ring marks on the tube and they dont move.   Jed

i used rubber cement on a cva muzzleloader that kept adjusting the scope for me.  300grain bullet with 100 grains of pyrodex

Thanks for the ideas. I think that electrical tape will be a lot easier and more reversable if I dont like. I thought about teflon, but thought it was suppose to reduce friction.

The one thing about tape is that in the heat the glue on the tape will turn to mush, I do electrical work and  I know electrical tape will. High voltage tape or teflon wood work better I would think.

The traditional fix is scope tube and inside of rings CLEAN and DRY. Sprinkle on a bit of Powdered Rosin and reset the scope.

Aw yes, familiar with slipping electrical tape when warm. I can't believe I didn't think of the powdered rosin after I had such a time getting some for the barrel vise I built. It really works well for the barrel vise, That is what I better try for the ring. I assume some in the bottom part but not under the overband, right?

I like the Weaver Quad locs, never had any problems with them letting any scope slip, about $10.00 at Wally World around here.  Can't find em anywhere else around here.  They have worked on the 444 Marlin and the 45-70.  DP

I have been using the quad locs a lot also, but havn't found in 30mm at wally world.
