The mounts are not square, the holes are not inline with the barrel and or receiver. Just use a windage adjustable mount or the Burris Z rings with offset inserts. This is fairly common.

Yes, the ones with the plastic inserts. You can get different offsets so you can adjust front and back or whatever you need. The windage adjustable rings are made by Leupold, Burris ect. They are the ones where the front ring twists in and there are 2 screws on the back base, one on each side. I love the Z rings, but they may take a little time to get dialed in.

Weaver also makes some windage adjustable rings and so do some others for the weaver type mount.  I also really like the Burris Signature rings, I have them on my Savage and they are really the way to go.  Larry

moorepower the leupold rings you speak of are the ones i have on it right now i did end up buying the 2 metal bars that come to a point but if i understand you right these will not help if the holes on the recevier are not drilled out inline with each other right or wrong? On the rings i have on it right now can i just loosen them up and bore sight it to get it alot closer i need about 8 more inches.Regarding the z rings do i need the kit that has the different sizes of inserts I TO REALLY LIKE THE Z RINGS. ;)Thanks for the help.

I had a similar problem with weaver rings and mounts on my 798 Rem 308. I went with the two piece leupold mounts with windage adjust and it worked out just fine.

Yes, you need the offset insert kit to adjust them.  But if you have the turn in type front mount and the rear mount with the screws on each side, just adjust the screws to get the left right thing centered up.  First, take the scope off, place it front side up against a mirror and look into the scope, you will see two sets of cross hairs, adjust the screws until they are on top of each other and the scope is set to zero adjustment.  Then do the bore sighting thing with the windage adjustable rings, then fine tune it with the scope adjustments.  Larry

i use millett mounts they are windage adjustable
recenter the scope and adjust the scope to the gun with the mounts. it takes some time but in the end it is worth it.

Forget the crappy windage adjustable rings. They've ruined more scopes than everything else combined. Just use Burris Signature rings with offset inserts. You must buy an offset insert kit separately if you don't already have one. In the very earliest days they came with the rings but no more.

I use the windage adjustable (Redfield designed) rings ONLY if no other type base is available. So far the Browning Low Walls are the only gun I've owned that I had to use them. They are an abomination and are the primary reason so many scopes have ring marks tho other rings can cause it as well if not lapped.
