Shorty .223 ultra

  I picked up my .223 ultra today from the gunsmith.  I made a post about having it done, but these are the results.  It now has a 18" barrel and balances perfectly in front of the trigger guard, which is what i was going for.  I haven't weighed it but it feels perfect.  He did a 11 degree crown on the muzzle and it looks very nice and square.  I am very happy with the "new" gun and hope to shoot it this afternoon. I also plan to get a 2-7 power scope for it. Now for the pics...

Nice!! Looks almost identical to Pete's 38-55 cept for the scope.

Looks good!  I put a new Redfield Revolution 2-7X33 on my .357 shorty and I am VERY pleased with it.

That just happens to be the scope I put on my 38-55 shorty!! I had a Weaver 2½x20 on it originally, but decided for load work I need to test the rifle, not my old eyes!

 Dang it, Ya'all just made me cut my 20 down. Now I am going to have to cut my .223 down.

  Thanks everyone for checking out my post.  I didnt make it out to the farm to shoot today and now its very windy and looks like rain.  I will be shooting it tomorrow for sure and i can take pictures of my groups too.  I am wanting to put a redfield revolution or a nikon prostaff 2-7 on it to keep the balance.  Nikons have been very good to me.  Im going to leave the 4.5-14 on to check the accuracy, then it needs to go.

I personally,am a big fan of the shorter bbl'ed guns. Shotguns and lever guns also. Part of my budget for a new weapon is for the "modification" of the bbl length and LOP.

There are some chamberings to me that I would want the extra length but most in my safe have been chopped. I have a 444Marlin Handi at the smith now getting "the treatment".

The first Handi that I bought for my wife had the bbl reduced to 18" and the LOP reduced to 13.0". It was an older 30-30 that I bought for her in about 1988. The 45-70 hog gun that I got for her in about '97 had the same treatment. I fell in love with that gun and it's handling characteristics. Now my 444 and soon to be(hopefully)my 500S&W will have "the treatment".

I would suggest that ya'll not be afraid to lop some off that bbl for the balance and the use in tight quarters. It is really a pleasure to use these weapons in a smallish tent blind,ground blind and even from a ladder stand. ---pruhdlr

  I made it to the "range" yesterday and shot quite a bit with the new rifle.  I was out 40gr hornady vmax which i normally shoot,  but had some S&B 55gr fmj and some PMC 55gr fmj.  I spent my first year with the rifle shooting nothing but the pmc ammo.  I would put them into an inch at 100yds consistently off a bipod.
  My groups seemed pretty typical for the pmc ammo once again even with the short barrel.  The S&B ammo wasnt bad either.  I was of course shooting off of my bipod at 100 yds.  i want to pick up some hornady 55gr vmax this weekend and try it monday just to see what it does with good ammo.  I think if i shot from a bench it would probably improve groups and the trigger seemed heavy now that the rifle is lighter, so that may need some work.  Here are some pics of the groups.  Both are 4 shots.
