Bout time to leave
« on: September 10, 2010, 08:25:43 AM »
Last weekend the leaves turned red and yellow.  Wednesday the burches started shedding their leaves.  This morning the cars were all covered with wet leaves, and had to be swept off before they could be driven.  The inflatiable boat sitting out back has ice on it this morning as well.  Official temps are only in the 40s at night, but that is at the airport in Fairbanks, 20 miles away.  During the day it is up in the fiftys.  But any day a cold front could move in and we will have snow.

Got a call from my buddie in Florida yesterday, it was 90 in Ft Lauderdale.  Florida is still a bit too hot, think I might spend a few weeks in Tennessee on my way down.  By then it should be cooler in Florida.  Having thoughts of leaving before snow this year.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Yes we've had highs in the low 90's now for a couple weeks here in Oklahoma.
You know fall is coming, but for us the snow is still 4-5 months away.
I'm hoping we don't have another winter this year like last year.

It wasn't last year.
We had about 5 or 6 significant snow/ice storms.
Usually only one or two.
I'm not whining, just I live down here because I don't like long winters. ;)

I love the changing of the seasons. Its cooler sleeping at night, the geese are just starting their migration, birds are flocking up, the last of the vegetables are ready to pick.  I just finished putting 20 cords of wood down cellar, cleaned the chimney, and started a batch of wine in the carboy. Both cabins are stocked with food and water. Gotta make sure the 45-70 still hits where you point her. My canning is done for the year.
Cleaned Donna's headstone today. I am as set for winter as I can get.
Florida is too hot for me, but I can imagine Alaskan winters as being too long.
I never experienced winter on the plains, but have seen many of them here in the north.
I hope everybody else is getting ready.

I'm ready for that global warming to kick in, so I won't be tempted to head for Arizona if it doesn't.

if not,, well you got as ready as you could ,to handle it..

I love the feel of fall in the air... in my bones and joints... not so much.  ;D

This year is flying by quickly, the holidays are just around the corner.  Seems that the older you get the faster time flies.  :'(   Fall, followed by spring are my favorite times of the year.  I could live happily without the sweltering heat of summer and the gloom of mid winter.
