handgun scope on Marlin?

I have a Bushnell 2 X 6 handgun scope I am thinking about trying out on my Marlin 444P. The only way I can see this working would be to but a XS Lever Scout Scope Mount on to move the scope far enough forward for eye relief. Everyone ever try this set up?

Some handgun scopes might work in the scout scope position depending on the eye relief.  I used electrical tape and put a Leupold 2x handgun scope in the scout position and it was to close for the eye relief of the scope.  Decided I would just get an intermediate eye relief scope if I ever decided I ever wanted a scout scope set up.  I assume you know the tape only works for testing, not shooting,
