.204 and cleaning
« on: September 21, 2010, 05:54:22 PM »
Well I have shot the new to me Handi .204 I picked up 60 or so rounds now and was wondering how offten you guys clean the 204 ? As I told Tim last week I am new to the over 4000 fps stuff. My .223 and .243 handis are better a little dirty than clean, with the .223 actualy better never cleaned!!! But I shoot fairly low velocity stuff. I shot some tonight and the accuracy was starting to fall off , I am guessing do to a dirty barrel as this is one of the best shooting rifles I have. Its embarassing to say I have a custom 25-06 that cost a ton and the little 204 shoots as good!!!!! not better but as good! Mark

That generally is when I clean mine, but I don't do a full scrub.
I just pull a dry bore snake through it a couple of times and then try it.
If it is back to poa I leave it alone.
If not, then I run the snake a few more times.
That has always worked for me.
To this day I have never scrubed my 204 and it has something over 400 rounds through it.
The same with my old 223 contender carbine and it has well over 2000 rounds down it over the years and still will cut holes at 100.
Some of my other guns need a scrubbing once in a while.
Yours may be different but give it a try and see how it does.
In the past I have seen a few barrels ruined by to much cleaning along with improper cleaning.

I clean my Handis when the bullets stick in the barrel ::)  It is basically because I'm a dirty old and lazy slob.
