my son use to slip an climb these tower an such ,for fun..no safety line.
 his mom an dads prayers are why he made it through ,in my opinion.. now hes 40
with a good wife an 3 sweet children..one slip an none of that would have ever happened..
i guess its a high for some ,but there never was a danger of me getting hooked on that kinda high..
 that ground hasn t gotten any softer..
i did at one time take trees dn block by block..
but i did use a safety line..that was plenty high enough for me.
 i use to take them dn ,working alone,but got broke of not having a ground man ..
 i was about to drop a section an heard ,mr. marks ,can i get you anything..
i ll never forget looking dn into his[home owner] big blue eyes.. he was totally unaware ,just how close he came to dieing that day..but it taught me my lesson.. you can warn them to stay in the house while you work..but
you need a grnd man to make sure they don t slip up on you while you are working..two foolish people learned a lesson that day..me an the home owner..

When I was quite a bit younger I worked high rise construction for beer money. ;)
The hieghts didn't bother me, you get used to it.
Now days "if" I did manage to climb that high they'd have to get a helicopter to get me down.

He darn near needs oxygen............Aftrer I was discharged from the Army I worked breifly for SWB Telephone on a construction crew building the early micro-wave towers through Southern Mississippi, The lowly 90 foot towers convinced me I do best on the groud. (Well, maybe I can take a deer stand.,)

I wouldn't want to trust my LIFE to the welds that secure those 7/8" diameter rods to the face of those round columns.  Unknown and unseen corrosion is all that it would take and poof you're outta there...

I painted a church steeple on a church with a slate roof once, that was enough excitement for me.  You can keep the radio tower stuff.

When I was young and hadn't decided to have kids yet, I worked high steel for a time.  Fantastic way to make a living alright, but at some point I decided I had seen one too many guys take a space walk and figured I needed to opt for another line of work. 

Imagine how long you have to contemplate your end from over 1,700'.  Most just go quietly.

The heights didn't bother me when I was younger, Army Airborne and have summited a few peaks and climbed a number of rock walls. Anymore I'll stick with ground level. Too beat up for that adventure stuff anyway.  I thought he was a bit lacking on use of the safety belts BTW.

I work for a drilling company they sometimes want me to climb up in the derrick. I tell the the same thing every time " I didn't leave anything up there and I ain't going back up there to get it "  ;D
