Guess I'm bumping this post. I found a like new tupperware stocked 1500 in .338 several years ago. It languished on a used rack at Gander Mountain for months. When the price came down to $199, I took it home. The tupperware was pretty cheap, so I ordered a JRS stock from Boyds. After a lot of experimentation, I discovered that this particular gun did better with full length bedding AND full strength loads. I also had a smith friend install a grind to fit Sorbothane butt pad, which really tames the .338. The gun will shoot into an inch @ 100 yards with loads the gun likes. I really like the simple, strong Howa action. This rifle's a keeper that's fairly screaming to go on an elk hunt.
