Question on a Genesis Bow
« on: November 02, 2010, 09:50:40 AM »
Anybody used a Genesis Bow to get their family into archery and eventually bowhunting?

My son and I are interested in bowhunting when we return to the mainland. There's an archery range at the public park up the street from us, so I've been thinking about starting off with a Genesis for the practice, skills, etc. My son is 15, about 6'; I'm 6'4" and on the off chance my wife who is 5'1" wants to give it a try, I thought a Genesis might be the most versatile for all of us.

Your thoughts?

Thanks,
Chaps

I would say the Genesis Bow if your son was younger, but I believe you could get him into a much better bow for his age.  There are many good bows that you could get him, that say next year he could hunt with because that is what is going to happen.  You will buy the Genesis now, and then he is gonna want to bowhunt.

There are good starter bows that the poundage can be increased on.  With the Genesis, you can not add a sight or rest that you will be wanting to do.

Think about what your investment will bring to your son.

I run a youth archery program at our club  I was all for that bow until I watch a young boy over pull the bow and almost  hit his hand with the arrow. If you get one put a draw stop on the strings for safty That way it cant be over drawn.

Check out the Bowtech Soldier or the Diamond Razors Edge,  made by the same company, come with everything you need (sights, quiver, peep) and have a huge range of adjustement in weight and draw length to be able to probably accomadate all three of you.

I got my daughter the Bowtech Soldier with wt adjustement is 35-65 lbs, 22-29" of draw length adjustment, and all adjustments you are able to do yourself. My daughter is 14 and 5'3" it has been great for her.

At 6'4" 29" draw my be just slightly short for you, 28-29 would be about right for your son, and 22-24 would be perfect for your wife. You'll need different arrows for different draw lengths and weights.

Bowtech is a company that are great military supporters, they contribute to support charities and have a military overseas discount on thier products.

genesis would make an ok bow for younger kid that you are wanting to get into archery,  but you could never use it to hunt with.  Most states have have a minimum peak draw weight, usually 40-45 # (45# in Illinois).  I agrees with pinkerton,  Don't really know about the soldier, but I do have a diamond egde for my GF and it is a sweet shooting bow, with tons of adjustment.  Also Bowtech makes the Diamond series of bows, It's there cheaper line of bows, but don't be fooled they are very capable,  usually using older tech in there bows.
