.308 Handi x3
« on: April 07, 2010, 05:17:12 PM »
Well I guess I am just a good old Dad!
Just ordered three Handi`s in the .308 configuration! One for me and the other two are for my two boys. Fitted these out with the Redfield 2x7 Revolution scopes.
These will be our knock about rifles for whitetails in E.Texas. I say my two boys, actually they are both grown men! Both are good hunters and always bring home the meat!
Anyway looking forward to sighting these "puppies " in and customizing some good loads for them.
Thought i would try the Remington corelokts for the first go around.

Good for you.  What models did you get?  I have good luck with the federal fusion 180's.  A little overkill for these Texas white tails but they do put the hammer down on the hogs.  I'm pretty sure you have a few of those roaming around that part of the State.  Better to be over than short is the way I look at it.

Streak,

Since you are footing the bill you should sight all 3 in by yourself and keep the pick of the litter. ;)

Sounds like the boys have a good ole dad.

I have the ultra varmint 308 from Dick's SG I did the JB Bore thing and was shooting 1.5" out of the box with rem core lokt 150gr and keeps getting better as I shoot it. I popped a 3 point buck at 167 yards with it here in central N.Y.

These will be the model SB2-208, and yes I will be involved with sighting in all three of them and customizing loads for them!
Spikehorn that is good shooting, were those 150 grain pointed soft points are the old roundnose?

Vr8, at the present time I live in Aurora, CO., but have property in E.Texas near McLeod, TX. And suprisingly some of those deer are getting to be whoppers! My brother several years ago saw a 12 pt. that was a "hoss"! Just over in Louisiana there is a good population of the Wisconsin " Blue deer" and they are big! These were stocked backed in the 60`s or 70`s!

Hhunter , we do have hogs in the area! There is an area just N.E. of McLeod that has had hogs since the late 50`s and let me tell you they are not to be toyed with!! So I may reload up with the old 180 gr. corelokt if the hogs start being to invasive!
Alot of the woods on our property is thick woods so they have plenty of places to hide, so the Handi`s will be ideal for these conditions.

streak they are the pointed soft points. about 7-8 years ago I happened into the local K-mart on my way home from work, just need to grab 1 box of 308 shells. When the cashier rang them up it was $6.00. I asked what was up with that, and he told me they were selling off the remington ammo cause they were going to start carrying winchester. I went back the next day and bought all the remaining 308 they had. I still have a bunch and when that is gone I,ll have a ton of brass. I should be set for a real long time
I have 3 308s. The H&R I mentioned above, a stevens 200 that I just handed down to my 16 year old (he took his 1st deer a spikehorn buck with it) That shot sub MOA right out of the box. I also have a 1916 Spanish mauser short rifle in 308.

Excellent choice!
