Shot My Renegade
« on: September 26, 2010, 03:41:43 PM »
I dug through all of my old stuff and used my calipers to find a handfull of .520 balls.  Using Walmart ticking, Birddog6 lube, 60 grains of Goex 3F, and Remington caps I shot several 3/4" groups at 25 yards.  Loading was very easy and wiping between shots was unnecessary.  When I finally did clean there was little residue in the bore.

If I could see I believe I could shoot this well at 50 yards.  It was pouring rain and I had 2" of fast running water under the bench.

Very nice considering your conditions.  My hawken does about that, but I can still hit pretty good with it out to 70 yards when not in a deluge!  lol  I really need some better sights for it though as the front is too large diameter and covers the entire target even at 70.  At 100, it covers more than the 10x10 gong and it's hard to get a good group.  I'd like to see what it does with better sights.  Hopefully soon...  ;)

I greatly prefer the T/C Hawken sights.

Does yours have the peep on the Thompson?  My buddy has a TC with that and it is a nice little aperture sight.  8)

Mine are both standard factory sights.
