Remington 770 trigger

I have a friend that while he was taken his stock off his rifle some how he broke the trigger and asemble,well make long story short, he found a trigger asmble of gun broker and won the auction and put it one his rifle any way, he says it wont fire now and the bolt moves up and down real freely with out much resestance, but he said if he pushes on the back of  the bolt with his finger then it will fire when he pulls the trigger,and wont fire if he dont push the bolt forward,can u guys tell me whats going on with this trigger all the info will help thanks

Sorry partner I simply don't have that much knowledge of the 770. Does the trigger asssembly have some kind of disconnector? If so it may not be allowing the trigger to work based on the bolts position.. Best I could do with no info.. Good luck..

 Hopefully by now he carted the gun off to a trusted gunsmith. I'm sure the original 770 trigger was not all that great anyway. If the trigger he bought off gunbroker has issues he should get a new one. Many gunsmiths may very well have a few factory Remington triggers laying around.
