Handi-pistol?
« on: November 20, 2010, 02:57:59 PM »
My brother-in-law and I were kicking around the idea of cutting down a Handi-rifle in 17HMR and making a pistol out of it. We found out that it would be illegal to do so(in the configurations we wanted), so that made me think "Has NEF considered making a long barreled pistol based on this frame to compete with T.C.?" Please give any feed back as to the intrest out there for this type of firearm.

Seeing how Ruger with its Charger pistol and Cricket's Hunter Pistol are going (pardon the pun) great guns with these two new offerings; that a single shot pistol from H&R should sell well. Especially if they can get a centerfire pistol for under $300 that has comparable accuracy to the T/C Contender. The barrel selection of 14" .223 & .30-30 bull barrels with only a scope mount, 10" barrels for the .357 & .44 Magnums with adjustable irons installed. May sell it for $350 and have a 6" .45LC/.410 snake charmer barrel with fixed iron sights included.

They would have to make some changes to the frame or barrels to keep the shorter barrels from fitting a Handi Rifle  and the grip must be changed where Handi stocks won't fit. These changes would be required to keep people from inadvertently making SBR's by mixing in Handi Rifle parts.

I'd get a 14" .223 with an extra snake charmer barrel without hesitation.

This has been discussed dozens of times, H&R has stated it isn't gonna happen more than once. The one H&R Inc made based on their existing frame style just wouldn't be a nice handling handgun.  ::)
