case trim for 357max

yep it is another question.   i though i remember seeing on one of the post about having to trim back the case when loading for the max.    before i get started i just wanted to check to see if that was for the hornady xtp bullets?   thanks again.

There's a minimum trim length included in all published loading data, to achieve consistency between each loaded round, brass should always be the same length, trimming to the min length accomplishes that as well as making sure the brass isn't too long for the chamber which can increase pressure.  But what you may be thinking of is some folks trim Maxi brass to shoot in a 357Mag barrel that hasn't been rechambered to Maxi, many 357Mag chambers will accept trimmed Maxi brass without rechambering, most will accept 360 Dan Wesson without any trimming.

But will add a question. Are you thinking of the long (heavy for caliber) dual cannalured XTP bullets?
 Mine is a orig 357 maxi barrel and will not fit seated to the lower cannalure. Personally, I see not advantage to trimming the brass to fit. To my mind, the marginal advantages are out weighed with the negatives, like having to police that brass and having it bullet specific. I get almost 2200 FPS from the 180's and my load of AA1680. That's allot of performance from this little case. If you feel you need more from a 35, buy a 35 Rem or Whelen. Tim has been working on some modern pressure 35 Rem loads that are equal to 358Win in performance!!

If you want my opinion, trimming the brass to fit is on par with the lunacy Hornady did with the factory flex tip, LE loads. Don't do it!
