Ruger Blackhawk 44 Mag
« on: September 13, 2010, 08:39:08 PM »
Tonite I was trying out a  Ruger BH 44 Mag, and after the 9 th shot the ejector rod came flying off.It looks like this has happened before. The stud that the screw goes into has popped off the barrel. Is this a common thing to have happen, and what is the best way to fix it. Hope to hear some comments

 Thanks

It sounds like the right move, would be to take that rig to a gunsmith or even return it to Ruger for the correct fix.

my limited experience with ruger customer service has been pretty awesum.they will prob fix it but yu will have to send it to them and being a cartridge gun it could be expensive to a point for the shipping.shipping plus paying a ffl to accept it on the way back.id just look for another one usless yu feel beholding to fix this one for the guy that owns it or really want to own it yourself.

Hey  Hillbill ,

You maybe right about the shipping .....but legal or not...I honestly don't know, Ruger sent a revolver directly to me after being repaired.  Seems to me it came Fed-Ex , if not then it was UPS....I know it was not USPS.  But point is , it did come directly to me from Ruger.  I paid near seventy bucks to get it to them however.   (this was a year ago or so , maybe the laws have changed )

regards , irold

well here is my recent experience here in MO. Ive got a blackhawk 45 comeing directly from ruger but they would only ship to a ffl holder.i recently shipped them a ruger old army thru the post office(after i had to explain to the postmisstress what her own rules were)and had another ruger old army shipped directly to me via fedex.now im not sure if yu need a ffl holder to ship a cartridge type gun to another ffl. that i havent done yet.

I can comment on a S&W repair.  They send out a FedEx 2-day shipping label for the revolver.  You box the revolver and send it FedEx to S&W at no cost to you.  S&W will ship the repaired revolver back to you, at your residence, and you or someone over the age of 21 will have to sign for it.  No FFL ever gets involved.  Ruger should pay shipping both ways - I see no reason why they wouldn't with the problem you described.  If the tech doesn't offer to send out a shipping label, I'd ask to speak to his/her supervisor, explain the problem and maybe he/she will consent to the free shipping - worth a try if denied by the tech.

If it's just the housing that flew off, I'd just put a little 222MS locktite on the screw and screw it back on the barrel - it won't work loose again.  Don't use any other locktite except 222, as you might experience problems when attempting to remove the screw later on, if you use the blue or red type.
