Good and Bad News
« on: October 21, 2010, 02:18:30 AM »
The bad news is I won't be able to hit the woods deer hunting this weekend.... :-[

The good news is I'll be going over to a neighboring town to do a little hog control inside the city limits.  Might be interesting and I haven't worked out all the details as yet.  Still trying to figure out some kind of light so I can see the hogs without spooking them.  Guess it has to be red, but I don't know how I'm going to mount it on my longbow......... ???

I have a head lamp that I use, or you can get one of these https://shop.primos.com/pc-1087-117-100-yard-varmint-hunting-light-kit.aspx and mount to a ground base or tripod.

Sounds like you may be getting into a really exciting weekend!
I agree with Cottonwood on the headlamp, you can get these at Wally-World and I think I've seen them with different color lens.

Be sure to let us know how the hog control hunt goes!

Good Luck & Good Shooting!

The nice thing about the headlamp, is the elastic strap for the head, can be made to tighten around your bow arm or velcro'd to your sleeve.  Here is the one I have http://www.flashlightreviews.com/reviews/energizer_ledessentials.htm

Well I got my tripod setup this evening and I might not need a light to shoot by at least this weekend.  The full moon has it pretty bright and I can see and hit a soda can from the tripod to where they have been rooting.  Laid down some corn will put some more down before I hunt the next two nights.  The trick is figuring out when they are passing by and catching them.

Now here is idea for ya... get a solar panel to charge a 12 volt system.  Get a motion activated light, and hook up... when they move in..... the lights gonna go on.

Jon, I've been doing some research on building such a system.  Red lights seem to be the ticket as the hogs never get smart to them.  Momma going to kill me if I spend any more money...... :o

Derek, I was thinking about that last night because half the battle of wearing a headlamp is projecting the right amount of shooting light.  If on a motion activated system, using red lights giving you just enough light to make them out.  A guy I had talked to, has a remote alarm for coyotes, that when they activate the motion sensor he gets a cherp in his blind by remote wireless.

I figure it works for trail cams, why not for lights... heck you'll have your very own "Hawg Red Light District"  ;D

Stopped by our local sporting goods store (Academy) to get some corn and they were just putting the same lights I ordered on the shelves.  With tax it would run me a few bucks more but I would have had them this evening to setup.  Dang
